‘Live Twitter’ Volunteer Opportunity at National Conference

The Accentuate Symposium
Friday 5th July 2013
Sallis Benney Theatre, University of Brighton

Are you a budding journalist and want an opportunity to lead a live Twitter feed as part of a National event? Then this volunteering opportunity is for you.

Requirements

We are looking for an up and coming PR person/journalist who would be interested in taking on the role of live Twitter writer from the Accentuate Symposium.  This will be to capture the discussion throughout and will be live streamed to audiences across the UK.

We would be particularly keen to take on a disabled person for this lead PR role.

This would be a volunteer role and therefore would be an interesting opportunity for someone in the early stages of their career.

All volunteers will receive a free equality and access training session as part of their participation. This will take place prior to the event day.

Provisionally this training session will take place on Wednesday 03 July 2013 in Brighton.

Volunteer timings: 12pm – 6.40pm, optional to stay for networking and drinks.
Event timings: 12.30pm – 7.30pm.
Registration 12.30pm
Doors open 1pm
Event starts 1.30pm
Event closes 6.30pm
Drinks and networking until 7.30pm

Refreshments and nibbles available, breaks will be given.

Event Accessibility

We will have British Sign Language (BSL) Interpreters and palantypists at our event.

It would be advantageous if you are able to use your own laptop computer however, we can supply one if required.

The symposium will be discussing what the cultural legacy is one year on from the Paralympic Games. Keynote speakers sparking the day of debates include Rosie Sherrington (Social Inclusion and Diversity Advisor at English Heritage), Vidar Hjardeng MBE (broadcast journalist, honoured for services to visually impaired people), Jonathan Banks (Chief Executive of Public Art Think Tank – Ixia), Professor Nick Watson (Strathclyde Centre for Disability Research) Rachel Gadsden Artist and Carole McFadden (Drama & Dance Adviser for East Asia, China & Hong Kong, Middle East and North Africa, British Council). There will also be the premiere of a new animated short lecture by Dr Tom Shakespeare.
